Freddy & Alternative Apparel

I’m kind of blanking on something to post today…this past week has been nutso crazy busy…so here’s me being me during my lunch hour on Monday. I’m wearing a new pair of leggings to review for Denimology from a brand called Freddy (seriously, the epitome of “butt lifter” jeans, these seriously have silicon strips under the bum and around the waistband…think butt bra but are extremely comfy!) and my favorite casual pieces from Alternative Apparel, the burnout tunic (similar) and the “Palm Springs” Slub Throwover (I love it, so versatile and surprisingly warm. It’s not available anymore, but here’s a very similar style from Splendid). The shoes are a Hautelook purchase I made for $19 a few weeks ago, the Penny pump by Envy.

The Little Red Dress

Me in Banana Republic Dress

Dress: Banana Republic, Shoes: Boutique 9, Necklace: Kevin Main

The Little Red Dress

Don’t get me wrong, I love me a LBD…and honestly, in my opinion, red is often a tough color to pull off. It is at least for me…I have almost zero red items in my closet. I think I only have one red tank, one or two red tees, and a pair of red jeans. However, last year I was given a gift certificate for Banana Republic for my birthday, which was JUST after I began coveting a pretty, vintage-looking red dress with cap sleeves that was displayed delicately in the front window of the store. So, it wasn’t tough to decide what I’d use my gift for, even though I rarely ever go to Banana Republic. I love the simplicity and classic-ness of the brand, I guess I’m just not quite grown up at heart enough for it yet. However, I absolutely love this dress and love any nice occasion to wear it. Here I am sporting it in Vegas this last weekend at The Orleans!

Charge Your Device with a Hot or Cold Drink using onE Puck by Epiphany Labs

I just love all of these new emerging technologies that allow the cause for renewable energy to spread across our commercial world…although most of them are for large-scale use. What about channeling energy generated by our everyday activities or the world around us into personal use? After all, it all adds up to large-scale terms, right? I remember not long ago reading about nightclubs powered by the dancing feet of patrons using technology like this one which fascinated the crap out of me, being as drawn to the lights of nightlife like a moth to the lamp on your porch…I mean, total duh factor, right? Then, on a smaller scale, I discovered a neat way to charge your mobile devices using solar power. But it doesn’t end there…now, there’s a Kickstarter campaign by a company called Epiphany Labs to help promote and develop a product that will charge your mobile device with any hot or cold drink you may currently be enjoying. The onE Puck looks as it sounds…like a hockey puck, and sits under your hot or cold beverage like a coffee mug warmer. Except, it’s transferring the energy from your cup to your phone/tablet/etc. Fascinating.

Epiphany Labs is a sister company to Epiphany Solar Water Systems, which created the world’s first concentrated solar powered water purification system in an effort to provide clean drinking water to those who lack access around the world.

I’ve tried so many accessories to conveniently power my mobile devices while on the go, only to find they are pretty cheap when they break or randomly stop working after just a few uses. This one, however, appears to be created with a wide-spread need in mind by an individual company focused on quality and meeting the real needs of consumers instead of simply focusing on mass-producing a product. I’ll have my eyes on this one for sure…maybe I’ll snag one. Greatest has some good words on it too!

Get your onE Puck for $99 here as an Early Bird special (comes with a sticker and tee shirt) to support the Kickstarter campaign before it hits the market and retails well over $150!

As we are carried through Spring and on into Summer, the warmer weather often incites us to break out our looser fitting, more casual clothing to wear with our open-toed sandals and flip flops. This sometimes means our tighter-fitting jeans get swapped out for boyfriend jeans on those lazy weekend days at the beach, the park or around the house! The entire concept of boyfriend jeans was so lost on me several years ago when they first came out, and it was Rich & Skinny who finally convinced me with their boyfriend jean in Twilight Vintage—it was then I realized this style could have a more feminine look with a more contoured fit to better accentuate our curves, and I also found that even more comfortable than the baggier styles that came out initially. I was recently introduced to Mavi‘s slim boyfriend style, the Emma. I hadn’t tried a slim fitting boyfriend style before and they looked too comfortably stylish to not give them a try. So today, I’m bringing you a Mavi Emma Slim Boyfriend in Painted Artist Vintage Review!

The Art of Slacker Wear by OnePiece

The Art of Slacker Wear by OnePiece

Lazy Sundays…definitely a day for slacking before we are tossed back into the grind the next morning. I’ll often find myself soaking in the slackiness in some cozy Gypsy05 awesomeness while streaming Netflix all day, but it appears that during the era of the Snuggie and the Forever Lazy, sometimes the simple sweatpant-sweatshirt combo isn’t enough, apparently—we’re all still kids inside, longing for our days of footie pajamas and onesies. Apparently we’re always looking for ways to increase our lazy slacker style. But come on, admit it, those were ridiculously comfy.

I’m not yet convinced I’d ever be caught dead in a late night infomercial garment (although the Snuggie DID become tempting after it somehow exited the realm of ridicule and entered “oh why not” party-gag-gift amusement status) but I haven’t completely abandoned the idea of wearing something like this…Target recently had some pretty hilarious and cute adult onesies that tempted me. However, apparently all this time I was waiting for the Norwegian brand OnePiece to come into my life to push the concept of adult onesies over from teetering back and forth on the the border of fashion purgatory back into “ok” status for me.

OnePiece was created in Oslo in 2007 with the idea of perfecting the “art of slacking.” The brand states “In our crusade against rules, norms and anything not perfectly comfortable, we are the original, the experts and the dedicated. We are not here to jump in and out of any trends or to stay ahead of any curve. We are here because we love what we do and we believe in what we represent. We’re the slackers, the stand outs and the fashion misfits. Someone always has to be the one that sits furthest back in the classroom – and in the fashion industry, we’re it.”

I dunno, I think it’s cute. I’d rock one. But yeah, in the house. Or a slumber party! Or maybe that’s pushing it…

Hi denim heads, Lana here, featuring a great pair of jeans for spring from a brand I’ve known about for awhile, and have looked forward to checking out for quite some time! I am excited to bring you a Marc Allison Gina Mid Rise Slim Boot in White review! Spring and summer months often bring lighter colors to your wardrobe, and denim is rarely an exception. Most people, including me, are terrified of whiter denim, despite how amazing it looks…it’s often notoriously see-through (and I always worry about getting it dirty!). However, when Marc Allison contacted me to review their new Gina Slim Boot, I chose the white style because of this fear…I was ready to take the plunge and find a great pair that could break the negative expectations that many have and try out something new. I have to say, these are pretty great!

FRENDS Layla Leather and Iridescent Metal Headphones

Being a music nut (and a DJ), I ALWAYS believe in quality over aesthetics. I remember being SO tempted awhile ago to snag a pair of pink Skullcandy DJ headphones awhile back (why? I have no idea…I don’t even like pink!! Barf) but knew deep in my heart they’d never hold a candle up to my now-discontinued Sony MDR‑V700DJs at the time. Of course being a girl, I can’t help but be just as attracted to building up my own image behind the decks as much as I am to sound quality and raw talent. But is it possible to have both?

I guess…but, whatever, this post isn’t really about that, per se…but either way, with my waning interest in Skullcandy (and don’t get me even started with Beats By Dre) and the lessons learned about hyped-up, trendy audio equipment in general, I think I just hit a new roadblock with these FRENDS Layla leather and iridescent metal headphones. Now while I probably wouldn’t dare be caught dead trying to use these at my next gig (they are not DJ headphones, after all), I wouldn’t mind sporting these pretty little things with my iPod while commuting on a train or on my next long road trip that I luck out on in terms of not being the one stuck behind the wheel. I don’t know, I’m reasonably attracted to pretty things, and upon reading reviews on the FRENDS brand, these don’t seem too bad, despite the fact that they seem to lack a bit on the lower wavelengths and can be a bit painful after wearing them for awhile to some people (here’s to hoping they just have alien-shaped heads). For $150 though? I don’t know, even the Sonys weren’t that much, and without people ranting and raving about impeccable sound quality, it’s reasonable to conclude that the high price tag is mostly for show…although, the memory foam earpads sound enticing. Don’t get me wrong, I know better and I am certainly not surprised…but…but…but…they are just so PRETTY!!! *cries* I kind of want a pair.

If you’d like to try a pair of these beauties, you can get your hands on them here, at Net-a-Porter.

A Casual Sunday with Jackie Guerrido Jeans

A Casual Sunday with Jackie Guerrido Jeans

Well, maybe not too casual…after a weekend of car shopping (not for the Porsche, that would be awesome…however, it’s on the same lot of the car we DID choose…a 2014 Volvo S60!) my hubby and I wandered around our sleepy San Luis Obispo town, imbibing a favorite brew or two with bartender buddies downtown before snapping a few photos for Denimology in the Porsche shop/dealership lot. My casual weekend style is pretty simple, unless it’s scorching hot…in which case I’d rather wear a patterned sundress or maxi, or shorties (when we’re talking sweltering) with a flowy top. However, my latest jeans for review for Denimology saw the light of day yesterday instead in our 80° weather, along with a comfy black staple top from Old Navy I got last year. Jackie Guerrido offers great fitting jeans at a lower price point (around $60 or so), and they are low rise! It’s not often that I find a flattering pair of low rise jeans that fit so well without budging or needing a belt. Along with yesterday’s shoot was the beginning of a batch of Levi‘s originals for May – the Trucker Jacket and Western Shirt. Along with that for later, are a fabulous pair of leggings from the brand and the original, classic 501s (which I still need to figure out an outfit for, being more partial to tighter-fitting jeans). All in all, after the tiny amount of rain that somehow equated to our “winter” this year (I know I know, Californians are seen as a bit on the spoiled side weather-wise, but we’re in the middle of a drought, people! It does, in fact, rain in California), it’s starting to warm up again, and I’m looking forward to dressing up this summer for many, many more reviews…and for wine tasting excursions in our new Volvo coming up later this month 😀

Printed Jeans with Level99

Jeans: Level 99 Janice Ultra Skinny in Moon, Top: American Eagle Outfitters, Shoes: Charlotte Russe, Necklace: Midwinter Co.

Printed Jeans with Level99

Printed jeans always seem to be on-trend, especially in the springtime with jeans splattered with flowers and other bright motifs…but there’s something about patterns that just make me think of a grandma’s living room drapes or an antique sofa. I love modern designs, which usually consist of minimal, block colors with nothing distracting. I find that rather relaxing and it’s just way, way easier to style. The last thing I care to do after coming home from a busy day at work is come home to a living room full of noisy, ornate designs everywhere. Just my two cents…I like subtlety. My mind is already hyperactive as it is.
