I am so excited to see more and more companies jumping onto the initiative of being more environmentally and/or ethically sound. Especially when it comes to fast fashion. H&M recently has been in the news about taking their own steps within the eco-friendly realm (more on that later), and now Zara has launched a new sustainable collection. The brand is owned by the distributor Inditex (one of the world’s largest distribution groups), which recently pushed to strengthen its sustainability commitments in economic development, human rights and environmental protection pursuant to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Join Life is the name of this new Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, which features beautifully modern, clean-cut pieces made of sustainable materials such as recycled and organic cotton, Tencel® (a wood fiber collected from sustainably-managed forests to guarantee reforestation), and recycled wool. Initiatives towards water-saving manufacturing processes and renewable energy were also implemented. Even the factories that produce the fabric must be evaluated by the Green to Wear Standard, which is “a tool for action and improvement for wet processes mills.” Earlier this year, Inditex even joined up with Lenzing, a sustainable fiber company, to turn fabric waste into “premium raw materials,” which also includes unused clothing submitted from Zara’s current customer base (collected at delivery of online orders). Read more about that here!
For now, feast your eyes on Join Life.
