As a blogger, or any creative for that matter, it’s normal to run into writing blocks. If you’ve noticed, I’ve even switched up my writing schedule to fit more of a twice-per-week plan, and sometimes I don’t write at all, if I don’t find anything that inspires me. Brands or styles that spark my fancy ebb and flow, so I feel it’s better for my blog to reflect that, rather than forcing articles that I’m not really feeling. But I never really have to fear, it seems…as every time I feel like I may finally have seen it all, another brand pops up that makes me go “oooOOOOoohh!”
For those of you who have been following me since the beginning, you know I prefer the darker fashions. Sometimes it seems like the selection out there is either Hot Topic or Marcellamoda—trendy goth styles for teens or modern, grown up, designer (and often pricier) styles for women. Both are fun (and man, I do love the latter), but when I simply want to build up my collection of unique, black items in my closet, I normally peruse American Eagle Outfitters (especially their Don’t Ask Why sister brand which often sits more on the alternative side). Of course there are other options here and there, but it’s hard to find a more affordable middle ground. Recently, I discovered Marigold Shadows, which has been called a “Zara for Goths” by the online publication Revelist.
Marigold Shadows first began selling at Lobby, a mall boutique in Costa Mesa, California. When Lobby moved to Marcus Gallery in downtown Santa Ana in 2014, Marigold Shadows decided to open their own little shop in the area as well. As they outgrew their new spot, they opened their online doors in 2016. Generally, everything is ready-to-wear, but they also create some made-to-order items as well. For a company that does that, is this new, and looks THIS original and creative, the prices are fantastic! Not cheap, but definitely very affordable for those who appreciate quality. There are so many pieces to choose from, but I love that they have an “All Black Everything” category. Really though, anything that isn’t black is either grey, white, or maybe red or a little navy—everything here is definitely made to appeal those with an affinity for alternative style. I am impressed! Here are my favorites from the “All Black” category. How cool is this stuff? I’m definitely going to have to add some of this to my wardrobe, ASAP!
“We are passionate about making our funky weird garments. Every piece is made with love and some are even made to order. We hope you find something you like as much as we do.”
