American Eagle Outfitters Denim X Hi-Rise Jegging in Inky Dark on Denimology
Not long ago, I posted about the American Eagle Outfitters Denim X line, and now it’s time for some reviews! For those who have experienced and fallen in love with the premium denim world, it’s sometimes hard to venture very far out of it as our tastes become more discerning. I rarely do, since I know what brands feel the best both in fit and fabric content and I tend to stick to them (unless I’m doing Denimology reviews of course…this has been such an awesome opportunities to get to know new ones!). But one that’s stuck out to me over the last ten or so years that I’ve been a fan, is American Eagle Outfitters. I wasn’t a huge fan of their denim when I first tried it, although I hadn’t yet tried premium denim either. But as the years progressed and the denim market grew, AEO stepped up their game and now I can say they are pretty darn impressive, especially for the value. I have ten or fifteen pairs of their jeans now and I keep them in circulation with my premiums! So I was really excited when we at Denimology got a chance to do a few reviews for this great brand. So here is an American Eagle Outfitters Denim X Hi-Rise Jegging in Inky Dark review!
One reason I have stayed pretty loyal to American Eagle Outfitters is because they always stay true to size and fit so I always know whatever I order from AEO will be satisfying. To stay competitive with their premium denim contenders, they recently just came out with a brand new fabric blend called Denim X, teaming up with INVISTA® Lycra to create a special line of their best-selling Jeggings. I was so happy to see them do this (as all brands have been taking the luxuriously soft, high-stretch, shape retention route to compete with denim fans switching to active/yogawear after complaints of jeans not being soft enough or bagging out). AEO says, “Our best fit ever. Revolutionary high performance stretch that’s softer than ever before. Never loses its shape…so you can show off your assets all day (and night).” I have to say the result is fabulous! I received two pairs: The Sky-High Jegging in Cold Blue Destroy and the Hi-Rise Jegging in Inky Dark. I had both sent in my usual size of 26 (in a size 2 in AEO). My Cold Blue Destroy review is in a separate post!
The American Eagle Outfitters Denim X Hi-Rise Jegging in Inky Dark is a pretty dark blue high rise jegging like the Sky High in Cold Blue Destroy, which I will be reviewing later this week, but it’s clean with no distressing, and actually fits more true to size for me. It fits snugly, but not quite as tight and it was easier to pull them up. I think they are a bit more comfortable, actually, because of that! I’ve worn them many times and they softened and loosened up slightly as well, but they didn’t lose their shape nor do I need a belt. These also have a high 9.75″ front rise and a higher 13.75″ back rise and fit my curvier, more athletic shape very well without any waist gapping or strange tightness anywhere. They are even more soft than the Cold Blue Destroy jeggings, I think, at 54% cotton, 37% modal, 7% polyester and 2% lycra (a little less cotton, more modal fibers). They have a 10″ leg opening for a true jegging fit, and I like the 29″ regular inseam which hits right at my ankles. This will be convenient for this quickly-upcoming boot season! Unlike the Sky High Jegging, the Hi-Rise Jegging does have actual front pockets, so that’s a good thing to keep in mind if you don’t like the legging-look of faux pockets. The back pocket logos on these have a cute embossed look, instead of the usual embroidered one. I always like the AEO back pockets!
Whenever anyone asks me for a nice pair of high rise jeggings that doesn’t cost too much, I always refer them to American Eagle! The Denim X technology was a smart move for the brand, and keeps them in the game. The Denim X Hi-Rise Jegging in Inky Dark is a great choice if you are looking for a clean, pretty dark blue form fitting style for a wide range of body types and styles this is a great one to try! At $49.95 (currently on sale for $39.99), you can’t really go wrong. If you haven’t yet tried American Eagle Outfitters denim, now is a good time to try!
