For most people, jeans are nothing more than a closet staple. It makes sense why they are seen in a classic sense; everyone wants pieces that will fit with everything. Essentials are definitely important, but why not shake it up from time to time? One of the reasons why I love the denim industry so much is because there are so many creative takes to your basic denim jean. Being someone who prefers to wear black most of the time, black denim is a huge part of my wardrobe. I feel I can never have too many pairs of black jeans. To most, that may sound strange…black denim is black denim, right? Well I’m here to throw that outdated idea out the window.
As a longtime fan of black denim, I’ve written several times of all the creative takes on this staple that I’ve seen out there. Occasionally I like to check up on what’s going on in that side of the market and share my finds here. As with denim in general, there are always the coated styles, raw or step hems, high rise, low rise, button flys, printed, embellished…you name it. I’m also always digging different fades or worn in looks, and usually I opt for the more dark “almost-black” grey styles because I like more of a grungy, laid back black denim look (I mean, how pretty is the finish on that pair up at the top of this post??). Either way, there’s something out there for everyone, and I get excited to show people there is far more to the denim industry than your typical pair of Levi’s workwear blue jeans of yesteryear.
Here are a few favorite pieces I’ve curated from one of my favorite premium denim retailers, Shopbop. I’d have to say my favorites here are the 7 For All Mankind Coated Boot High Waist Skinny Jeans in Vintage Black Coated and the R13 The Kate Skinny Jeans in Orion Black.
