I’ve known about Mavi Jeans for quite awhile, ever since they used to grace a late boutique we had here in my town that I designed displays and window posters for back in 2008. However, I didn’t really get to try them out until 2014 for a Denimology review featuring the Emma Slim Boyfriend, and once again last year featuring the ultra soft Serena Jogger. This time though, I’m even more excited because I got to try the brand new Feather by Mavi Gold line, which I wrote about last month! These are really something special, and I’m excited to show off this pair which was my favorite from the line and stood out to me right away…the Alexa Ankle Skinny in Green Indigo Gold Feather!
There are always so many promises in the denim market promising softness and fit, and most brands do meet that promise nowadays thanks to better fabric technologies and improvements on fit, partly due to the increased competition with the rise of athleisure a couple of years ago. Mavi took another approach, keeping the values of fit and ultrasoft comfort, reinventing a new line to be “light as air” and aptly naming it the Feather collection. This line employs the high performance denim from the Turkish fabric manufacturer Orta (as Mavi always has), creating a blend of mostly viscose, lyocell and tencel mixed with cotton. When I first got these jeans in, I noticed they were soft like the other pairs of Mavi jeans I’ve experienced, but they certainly are incredibly lightweight!
On first look, the wash is just beautiful as it looks online, if not even more vibrant. It’s a gorgeous light blue with a very very slight green tint and fading on the front of the thighs. There is a little distressing along the back pockets, on the hips, and there is one well-placed rip on the left knee which doesn’t really feel like it’s going to blow out too easily as soon as I kneel or sit down. It feels like it might a little, but I think that will just add to the unique beauty of these jeans! My favorite aesthetic is the big undone hems, which add some extra color, dimension and character to the entire jean. Undone and frayed hems are a pretty big trend right now, but Mavi made these their own and I love how they seem to blend right in with the overall style and look of the jeans.
The fit is the best part here…I didn’t have to do any little dances to get them up and buttoned, but it’s funny because they are so darn soft that they almost seemed like I could have sized down in them! I had taken my usual size of 26, and as I wore them over a few days, they kept their shape and it was obvious that initial feel I had was just indeed because of their softness and the fact that they are so thin…it really doesn’t feel like you’re wearing much! They are made of a 70% cotton, 16% Lyocell, 12% Polyester and 2% elastane blend. At first I was concerned of the lightweight nature of the fabric making them a little less durable, but they really do feel like they’re going to last me for quite some time, with just enough give to move along with you wherever I go or do. Mavi designed these for “maximum freedom of movement” after all!
The Mavi Alexa Ankle Skinny in Green Indigo Gold came out just in time, and are absolutely perfect, for summer! Not only are they nicely lightweight and breathable, but also feature a 28” inseam and a mid rise of 8.5” to be flattering with just the right amount of coverage to keep me feeling cool. The beautiful light blue wash makes me want to wear them while strolling along the boardwalk. I’m looking forward to wearing them both to work and casual weekend days with friends or out on the town, now and for years to come!
