I know, I was just as surprised as you are, I guess. Usually Fall is the time for earthy, neutral colors such as browns, burgundies, and olive greens…but I’ve seen more than one retailer pushing the latter as a new Spring color. I’m fine with it, as I’m not much of a bright pastelley color person at all, and olive happens to be one of my favorite colors. It’s nice to find more toned down alternatives! Most people probably associate olive green as a military shade, and military pieces are indeed included in these new Spring marketing campaigns. They are also usually more lightweight which offers more breezy options for the warmer weather!
Olive green is such an easy shade to pair with just about any other color. I wear it a lot with other black shades (I like having at least one black item on at all times), or burgundies. I guess you could say I rock the “fall colors” year round! Even though I could care less about what’s “on trend” or what stylists say you should wear (because fashion is all about taking “risks” and expressing your own creativity anyway), it’s cool to see things being shaken up a bit from the usual colors designated for each season. This shade is usually seen on leggings or other tight-fitting Fall pieces and I think it looks quite beautiful with Springtime detailing like frills and on more flowy, looser fits. Here are a few cool pieces in this slightly edgier, often underrated shade to continue on into Spring, brought to you by a few of my favorite shops: Shopbop, Revolve, and White House Black Market.
