Everlane Introduces Sustainable Denim Shorts and Skirts

OK, time to get back to more denim! Lately, I’ve been so excited to see the great strides being made in the sustainable apparel world, especially in denim. It’s still not quite to the point of being mainstream, but it’s pretty impressive how many brands, old and new, have been working hard to make this a widespread reality. Awareness of the importance of moving towards a more sustainable society is growing among consumers, and although there is suspicion that many brands may simply be feeling the push to maintain a competitive status, I know there are also several who are right on board with those consumers.

Spring Summer 2018 from Nomads Hemp Wear is Here!

I usually do not include exclamation marks in my post titles…I’m not all that into sensationalism (and they aren’t the best for search engine optimization). However, I’m such a huge fan of this brand—I don’t think there’s any other seasonal release from any other that I look forward to with such excitement! I can’t even remember how I discovered Nomads Hemp Wear, but it’s been a sweet, sweet relationship between them and my wardrobe for several years now. Eco-friendly and sustainable apparel can be more on the expensive side, but this Canadian brand has almost revolutionized that market by doing everything they could to keep prices down while keeping their entire production fair trade, and everything is made with such amazing attention to quality and comfort, as well as unique, intricate detailing and prints. Their tops have been in several of my older denim reviews, such as this one and this one, and outfit posts like this one. Several other pieces of theirs I also wear at festivals, so I love how versatile their creations are! From parties to casual moments to the office or out on the town, they’ve basically got you covered. About seven days ago, they released their Spring/Summer 2018 collection, and (no surprise) I’ve already placed an order (that Demure Tank below, hello)!

Chic Rainbow Pieces to Welcome Summer from Revolve

I’m not really one to wear bright colors, unless I’m at a festival or themed party (and even then, I prefer to darken it with a little black). However, it doesn’t mean I dislike color—I am a creative and started off as a graphic designer, after all. When the warmer summer days come around, I enjoy being around or looking at brighter colors to up my mood after the cooler months and look forward to fun in the sun and the parties that come along with it. I don’t need a closet that’s all black (although about half of it is), and I like mixing in some other super creative pieces in to have fun with building outfits for fun occasions. I opened my usual REVOLVE newsletter a few days ago and noticed they put together yet another edit I enjoyed browsing through, titled The Rainbow Edit, which features all the colors of the rainbow. Yesterday’s newsletter featured another one under “Looks We Love.” Seems to be a thing!

20 Unique Last Minute Mother’s Day Gifts from Etsy

It can be quite hard to shop for moms…by that time in a woman’s life, she might be fairly particular and settled in her tastes and not quite feel the need for additional items around the house. Sometimes all that moms want is your company, which really is better than any gift! Jewelry, a card or flowers are always a given, but sometimes they can seem so cliché. Many people opt for DIY gifts, but how many of us have the time nowadays to craft something up? Mother’s Day is one of those times when a special, unique gift can go a long way. Personalization is a huge option, but where can you go for something emblazoned with a personal message that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg? I don’t know why Etsy is still often seen as simply a place where creative folks offer whatever crafts they deem special enough to purchase (which it kid of is, but..), because it’s seriously one of the best places to find quality items made with love to pass on to loved ones (or keep for yourself), that you can’t find anywhere else. I’ve written several posts featuring this fun shopping destination, featuring Valentine’s Day gifts, leather tote bags, Etsy shops by friends, and some of my favorite general finds. I love supporting independent artists a whole lot more than huge chain stores or brands! So I decided to curate a post featuring 20 unique last minute Mother’s Day gifts from Etsy!

Fair Trade Bohemian Apparel and Accessories by Cleobella

After all these posts I’ve been making pouring out my love for independent designers usually found at music festivals, I would be lying if I said I didn’t still peruse major retailers from time to time. Shopbop and Revolve are the top favorites, but because of being exposed to the little guys and the importance of more sustainable “slow fashion” efforts, I do my best to be conscious about what ethical brands might be available from those websites. Fortunately, there are several in the designer market that do care about humanitarian and earth-friendly practices. Last year I wrote about five sustainable brands found at Shopbop, one of them being Cleobella. I revisited this brand recently and figured it was worth highlighting them again!

Organic Handmade Denim Jackets by Kinetic Couture

So it’s been about a week and a half since my favorite event on the face of the planet: Lucidity Festival. For those just tuning in now, I am inspired so much by all of the independent apparel vendors at conscious festivals, especially this one! Since I started this blog writing about denim, it can be a difficult transition to mix a lot of these styles into my blog (although I’ll write about any of them that truly fit my style, as there are truly tons of great ones out there), but sometimes I find gems…handmade and sustainable brands that also use denim! One of these small businesses is one I saw last year at Lucidity and I was happy to see return to this year’s is Kinetic Couture.

Versatile and Stylish Belt Bags for Everyday Convenience

OK first thing’s first, I know, I went MIA again, and I apologize…but be rest assured that if I was ever going to quit this blog (which aint gonna happen), I’d make a statement. Sometimes life gets in the way and that’s exactly what went down—I basically had three weekends of DJ gigs, work picked up, and I took a little vacation to Lucidity Festival (which yes, involved one of those gigs)! It was nice to take a break, but was also looking forward to picking it up again. Whether I post three times a week or once or not at all, I’m always looking for new things to write about! I thought today’s post should somehow tie into the music festival spirit, so I decided to write about a staple in that community which I’ve noticed gaining traction in the contemporary fashion world: utility belts. You might know them as belt bags, or most commonly, fanny packs. However, this notably tacky piece from the ’80s has totally been reinvented!

The Festival Vibes Edit by Revolve

The Festival Vibes Edit by Revolve

Image: Revolve

In case you haven’t yet noticed, I’m usually not all that partial to the more mainstream “festival style” or “boho fashion,” and usually opt for more independent designers and artists (I like to call them “artisans”) found at transformational or conscious festivals like Lucidity or Lightning In A Bottle. Every time I see a more mainstream ad for festival fashion I often cringe a little, since so many of them to me seem fairly unoriginal and cookie cutter. Plus, I love supporting the small, struggling artists a whole lot more! However, I’d be lying to myself if I said I didn’t appreciate art in all its forms, and I also understand that my style of festival apparel may not appeal to everyone. So, when I received a newsletter from Revolve, one of the best online retailers for upscale contemporary style, about their latest Festival Vibes edit, I decided to give it a look and share my favorite pieces for those of you who may not connect with me on all of the hippie, nomadic stuff I love to share!

New Rigid Styles by 7 For All Mankind

Before all of the stretchy, form-hugging, legging-like jeans of today, rigid (100% cotton) denim dominated the market. These vintage pieces, as well as jeans that are inspired by them, have once again re-emerged onto the market over the years as super stretchy fabric technologies exploded to compete against the growing activewear industry. Not everyone jives with those stretchy fabrics, and vintage denim has spawned quite a strong cult following of sorts. Brands like Levi’s and their new 501 Skinny, as well as brands like RE/DONE which revamps pre-loved Levi’s jeans into modern fits, have helped bring rigid denim back into the mainstream, and other premium brands have taken notice. 7 For All Mankind is one of those names that excelled in the super soft, stretchy and lightweight fabrics, most notably with their introduction of their b(air) Denim line in 2016. However, big name brands like this stay on top for a reason: they know it’s important to move with demand and stay open to new innovations. So with that said, I am excited to see a few brand new rigid styles by 7 For All Mankind!

New Nomadic Street Style Looks from Psylo

When I look back at the Oregon Eclipse festival my husband and I attended last year, I not only think about how incredible that life-changing cosmic spectacle was…but also all of the amazing apparel vendors I discovered. I know I had mentioned I’d cover them all, but I haven’t even gotten close. I did highlight my favorites though! Eternal Mode, Symbolika, SoulCrafts and Psylo were four I hadn’t seen before that stood out to me, and it’s been fun watching these independent brands grow and come out with new designs. I am such a huge fan of earthy, boho, festival style that looks like it belongs in the desert or forest rather than bouncing around with my squad at Coachella (not that there’s anything wrong with that), because of the intricate and one of a kind creativity, attention to detail, and the importance placed on earth-friendly fabrics and processes. Plus, I always love supporting the little guys. I figured I’d revisit a favorite…I’m once again drooling at several new nomadic street style looks from Psylo!
