Parker Smith Ava Skinny in Abstract Mint Review on Denimology

I am a HUGE fan of jeans that are painted, patterned, printed, textured…you get me. Not many things can replace the classic blue jean, but there is something awesome about a jean with several different colors or a unique pattern or print in terms of its unexpected level of versatility. Not many are well rehearsed in how to style them, and I wasn’t either, until about a year or two ago. I’ve developed quite a fondness for them and realized that they actually do have a multitude of possibilities! I think I have more fun styling them then I do with a traditional jean! When I was presented with another chance to review a pair from the perfectly classic brand Parker Smith, I was immediately drawn to a pair that I didn’t expect to find amongst their other jeans which have been favorites of mine on their own for many years. So here we go with this next pair I’d love to share with you…here’s a Parker Smith Ava Skinny in Abstract Mint review!

Parker Smith is a pretty new Los Angeles brand, founded in 2014. However, due to their soft European fabrics and amazing fit which is great for curvier shapes, they have gained a ton of ground in the denim market already! As the “real jean for the real woman, whether you’re a career fashionista or a stylish mom looking for a great fitting pair of jeans,” each jean is “wear tested” to ensure a fit that won’t ever bag or sag, and finished by hand for a “sophisticated and contemporary look and feel”. As an Earth junkie, I love the fact that their jeans are made of eco-friendly cotton, which is mixed with tencel for an extremely soft, wrinkle resistant and absorbent fabric blend.

It’s been awhile since I reviewed Parker Smith! I enjoyed the Ava Skinny once before (in Skylight), as well as their Bonnie Trouser and amazing Becky Bootcut! I already knew of their great fit and super comfortable fabrics that keep their shape no matter how many times you wear them around. I’m stoked to try something a little different from the brand! The Ava Skinny in Abstract Mint immediately caught my eye on their website, and when it arrived at my door it was no different. The light seagreen blue is so pretty against the black pattern, which is actually more like a slightly shiny coating with an antique-like finish. The fabric blend is a 51% Cotton, 38% Lyocel, 8% Rayon, 3% Spandex combination and is actually a stretch twill, unlike the standard Ava Skinny which is a 90% Cotton, 6% Polyester and 4% Elastane stretch denim blend, but is just a tad more rigid (although it still holds a good amount of stretch). I took my usual size of 26, which is a 2 with the brand, which fits perfectly without being tight. It has the same 10″ opening and 9.25″ front rise, but the inseam is just one inch shorter at 29″ which hits at the ankle…perfect for the upcoming summer months! Especially because they feel a bit cooler and lightweight! The Ava in Abstract Mint has the same great fit that didn’t stretch or sag on me at all. This jean kind of fits and feels like a typical 5-pocket legging jean, with faux front pockets (which I love with tight jeans because it eliminates the need to tuck things back in after using the restroom) and no extra detailing throughout other than the brand’s label on the back of the waistband and on the fly button.

The summer calls for light pieces…both in color and fabric weight. I’m not usually a fan of light colors, which is why I love the look of these! The juxtaposition of the black coating with a rubbed-out effect with the light green gives them an edgy look that is super fun to style. I like to style printed or textured jeans with neutral tops so as not to distract from them, but sometimes a top of any color works as long as there is zero to little detail to it. For this review, I’m wearing my Weave Me Wings top from Elven Forest Creations, which I bought for festivals but it ended up being more versatile than I thought it would be! But really, these are just fun and I’m sure the possibilities are endless! I’d wear these throughout the day or out on the town at night, and these would even look sweet under tall boots in the winter. The Parker Smith Ava Skinny in Abstract Mint is definitely a fun and surprisingly versatile jean to add to any denim fan’s wardrobe!

Hi! I really enjoy your denim reviews and started following you after searching AYR denim reviews. Was wondering how tall you are because I am afraid of ordering some of the jeans based on my own body proportions – just needed a sizing scale to determine how they might fit me. Thanks!!

Hi Zairah! Thank you so much, I’m glad you have found my reviews helpful!! That is awesome. I am about 5’5.5″ tall, so usually a 32 or 33 inseam in bootcuts is best for me if I plan to wear flats. I hope that helps! Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need any further advice 🙂 AYR is definitely amazing and great for a wide range of body types, so I know you’d be happy with them! I’d be happy to know how it goes if you get a pair, as they are a big favorite of mine 🙂 xo

Leave me a comment! I do my best to respond to all. But please, keep it classy :)
