Parker Smith Ava Skinny in Skylight Review on Denimology

It appears that no matter what the current fashion trends dictate, the skinny jean’s reign is relentless. Whether the subject of a season’s runway shows around the globe or an underground cult favorite, I think we can pretty much agree the skinny jean is here to stay. Over the years the skinny jean has seen multiple variations, with new fabric or fit technologies bringing this classic style more and more towards a luxurious and perfectly comfortable fit. The fall brings out the darker washes, perfect for tucking into boots, and the summer brings out the lighter shades to keep you cool. All denim brands seem to be showing more innovation in the comfort department as the denim market becomes more saturated, especially now that we are seeing more competition with the rising popularity of leggings and activewear. One brand that I reviewed with high marks not long ago is Parker Smith, and I am thoroughly impressed with their insanely comfortable denim. My last review was for one of their bootcut styles, and today I’m bringing you a Parker Smith Ava Skinny in Skylight Review!

As I mentioned in my past review for the brand, Parker Smith is a relatively new addition to the denim world! Born in 2014, they are already gaining ground with their soft European fabrics and curvy fit! The brand states “Parker Smith is the real jean for the real woman, whether you’re a career fashionista or a stylish mom looking for a great fitting pair of jeans.” Each jean is finished by hand for a “sophisticated and contemporary look and feel” Los Angeles. The fabrics used are made of eco-friendly cotton, with tencel for an extremely soft and comfortable feel that is wrinkle resistant and absorbent. Parker Smith “wear-tests” each jean to ensure shape retention through wear after wear after wear.

The Parker Smith Ava Skinny in Skylight was sent to me in my usual size of 26, just like the bootcuts I reviewed were. They are a nice, light neutral and classic blue which will go with just about anything in my closet (although I prefer to pair light jeans with a dark top, and vice versa). They have a cool vintage, worn-in look to them! As with before, I was immediately impressed with the silky soft stretchy feel of these jeans, which are also lightweight with a durable thickness to them (90% cotton, 6% polyester, 4% elastane), if that makes any sense! With Parker Smith, I sometimes feel like I could size down, however my usual size is just so comfortable that I think it would defeat the purpose. They are so soft that they feel just a tad loose in the waist, but I think they just have enough stretch that the well-fitting cut has a nice gentle hug to it. They do not stretch out much, but I do think the bootcuts fit my curvier shape better than the skinny style—there is just a little room up in the waist with these. I find myself pulling them up a few times a day, but it’s not too bothersome. This is probably because they are a nice 9.5″ high front rise which fits right over my hips, and the 30″ inseam with a 10″ leg opening gives them the perfect crop look for summer, with the tightness of a legging.

I am wearing my new Nine West Beautie pumps from Hautelook! I was looking for a nice toned-down neutral navy pair of leather pumps for work, and Nine West was on my mind due to their affordable, simple pumps. I needed a short platform for comfort, and after searching for what seemed like forever (don’t you love how sometimes the most simple things are the hardest to find??), these popped up at just the right time. I love the black stacked heel and platform, both for the color and for the fact that they can’t scuff as easily as a coated heel. Score!
