Party Worthy Athletic Leggings
Man has the athletic apparel industry taken off! I’m sure these delectably patterned leggings have existed for awhile, but it seems there have been more popping up ever since the fashionable athletes amongst us took the athleisure trend seriously and wanted to look good while breaking a sweat as well as while hanging out or running errands. These pretty designs seem to center around the yoga industry, but I’m seeing more of them at parties and music festivals than anywhere else! I grabbed a pair of Onzie leggings for Lightning In a Bottle earlier this year, and I have to say I’ve fallen for it too. I became sort of obsessed with printed jeans recently too, so I guess it only made sense for printed leggings to follow suit. I still can’t see myself wearing them around town, or even to workout (well, maybe actually), but I really love styling them for music events! For this post I decided to make a small collection of some of the brands that have stood out to me lately, in some truly eye popping designs. I generally like lots of color and abstract or geometric designs that are more blocky than fine or detailed (although it depends on the artwork). I can’t even recall exactly how I ran across some of these brands…I think Teeki popped up while I was searching far and wide for the perfect Onzie legging, and I’m pretty sure Mahiku and Sadhana were both followers on Twitter. Luna Jai was brought to my attention by a friend, because the name is so close to my DJ alter ego/name, Luna Jay! Kind of funny how that one worked out. TUYA (Turn Up Your Awesome) is a brand I discovered at Lucidity Festival and has a great charitable cause attached to it. Onzie is definitely a favorite…I wrote a lot about them on a past post, here! Most of the styles from the brand that appear in this post are still available across the internet. Onzie is actually the brand that really made me see why some of these leggings cost as much as they do…the quality is impossible to explain until you try one on for yourself! See a photo in my Onzie leggings below. Either way, I like all of these designs, and there are a lot more where these came from, so be sure to check out these brands individually, as most also have other athletic pieces such as sports bras, outerwear, etc.
“Founded on Oahu in 2012, Mahiku is a premium activewear and lifestyle brand committed to style, comfort and quality. Mahiku was born when the founder, Ehiku Rademacher drew on her 20 years of experience as a native Hawaiian water women and competitive athletes to craft the perfect workout pant in the Kini capri. A precision low to mid rise cut, created from Mahiku’s exclusive quick dry materials and infused with eye catching bright prints, the Kini prototype was a standout in a sea of cotton workout gear and unique in its ability to be worn both in the water and on land.” I adore the pretty tropical prints of these leggings, but I think I’m actually more drawn to the simple and earthy-looking olive and black Vanessa Racer Legging above! The fact that they have UPF50+ sun protection is definitely a bonus! This is a brand to keep my eyes on for sure, and I can’t wait to see what else they come up with in the future.
“Sadhana, an specialist designer of women’s activewear, creates, designs and manufactures inspirational garments based on different aspects of life and focusing on women’s need to be on the edge of the new trends and fashion. Our garments help improve not only the looks but also helps shaping the right sections of a woman’s body, with UV protection features, muscle shaping technology, anti-wrinkle textiles, quick dry technology, pilling resistant, breathable materials, smooth and comfortable surface that adheres to your body. All these features make us unique and add personal confidence for women who not only feel comfortable at whatever activity that she performs, but also with an excellent upscale touch.” These designs are so seriously awesome, as is everything stated in their description here…there were WAY too many cool designs to list here and it was tough to narrow it all down to three, so check them all out here!
“Teeki is an eco conscious activewear line. We dance to a different beat, stretch with the yogi, run to the highest peaks, hike in unexplored territories, and swim where the ocean becomes one. We are teeki. We take water bottles and turn them into clothes, giving them purpose again through an eco-friendly process. We support you with your active lifestyle and adventures; yoga, gym, workout, surf, sports, dance, flow and constantly moving forward with your body, mind, and spirit.” Teeki also has an awesome selection of tops and bell pants with some ridiculously awesome designs, so I know I’ll be keeping my eyes on these guys for some time now!
“Turn Up Your Awesome® or TUYA® for short, is a lifestyle empowerment brand on a mission to challenge and encourage people to live their lives to their truest & highest selves, while bringing awareness and solutions to important social causes. 11% of all of our net revenue will be donated to measurable direct-action social causes, forever. This is our promise. When donning these magical classic TUYA Leggings, you’re in for a real treat. Warning: Get ready to turn heads and be showered with compliments. With a secret waist band pocket and top-notch stitching and materials, these bad boys are as comfortable as it gets!” Ever since I discovered TUYA at their Lucidity Festival booth this year, they’ve been on my mind constantly! I almost grabbed a pair while there, but wasn’t in much of a mood to spend much money (which is kind of cool about those back-to-basics types of festivals). But now that I better understand their message and mission, I wish I had! Fortunately they have a limited stock online, so I’m going to have to get one soon! These are so cool.
“Luna Jai Athletic is a unique collection of handcrafted fitness apparel that combines high fashion with high performance comfort!” From concept to development to construction with their special WIK-FIT fabric™, attention to fit, design and quality digital printing, this brand has nowhere to go but up! With a 5-step quality control process, you can be sure you are receiving a quality product. I can’t wait to try out a pair of Luna Jai leggings sometime, and I love the blend of mesh fabrics in some of their designs!
“Created by a 20 year Bikram Yogi, Onzie blends the best of traditional yoga wear with modern innovation and a touch of whimsy. The result? Active apparel that is functional, flexible and flattering. At Onzie our philosophy is “keep your practice challenging, and your wardrobe simple!” Onzie’s no-frills one-pieces and separates are best worn while sweating, swimming, or simply lounging around” and utilize a “Free-Flow Fabric Technology that is durable and breathable” which keeps “bodies cool, dry and comfortable. In keeping with the principle of being inclusive, rather than exclusive, Onzie is affordably-priced and suitable for all activities and practices. Onzie products are made with love in southern California.” This is me wearing my Onzie legging in Jamaica, looking out over the now non-existent Lake San Antonio at Lightning In A Bottle 2015.
