By now you may have already realized that I’m more partial to the darker stuff…I like edge. I kind of hate pastels. That basically sums me up! However, I love unique and creative pieces, and most of that can be found in the realm of independent artists. Because of that, Etsy is a huge favorite shopping stop of mine. You might think Etsy is just full of items sold by everyday hobbyists (which I also support), but it’s far deeper than that. I own and wear several pieces I’ve gotten from Etsy, as there are several full blown (but still small) brands that use this platform to reach discerning fashionistas such as myself. I wrote about some of my favorites about two years ago on two separate posts (see them here and here). The search always continues, and I’ve just run across another one that I’m completely enamored with!
Siskatank is a brand from Rome, Italy, born in 2011 as “clothing for survivors” and specializing in alternative apparel. Siska, the brand’s founder, makes everything by hand. All graphics are even hand-painted or hand-printed! The name of her company is inspired by Tank Girl of Jamie Hewlett (which is one of her favorite comics) as well as “Sci-fi, underground culture, industrial decay, post apocalyptic, H.R. Giger art, cyberpunk and biopunk, Philip K. Dick books, Dystopian futuristic societies, punk rock and new wave music.” She makes everything to order, so she can focus on quality rather than quantity, making sure each piece is made with the best attention to detail and love.
I discovered Siskatank through my favorite way of browsing through Etsy: by looking at the favorite stores of my favorite designers. This one stood out way above the rest this time around, and I’m seriously wanting everything the brand has to offer! I love that most of these items could be worn at festivals or concerts, but also every day, as they are edgy but modern enough that they don’t have to sit in your closet, waiting for the next special event to turn heads once again. Here are some that I am currently craving…
“Siskatank means a choice of handmade realized with maximum attention to materials and resources. The certainty about originality and creativity free from mass dictates. I don’t work with tailor’s labs and I don’t want a serial productions! With this motivations I make my items made to order only, in this way I can offer you a more conscious production focused to quality rather than quantity. I love my work and making things with my hands, and I enjoy the idea that some one out there will enjoy what I made.”
“Sci-fi, underground culture, industrial decay, post apocalyptic, H.R. Giger art, cyberpunk and biopunk, Philip K. Dick books, Dystopian futuristic societies, punk rock and new wave music. All this is my visions and inspiration for Siskatank clothing.”
