And suddenly I am brought back to my childhood days, with my never-ending collection of My Little Ponies, and finally getting my hands on one of the scratch-n-sniff editions with the ice-cream scented butt. For some odd reason many artificially-scented items remind me of that smell, which I somehow still haven’t forgotten. I’ve never considered actually purchasing clothing that came with a scent…although the only reason I enjoyed buying jeans at Abercrombie & Fitch for awhile was that faint delicious smell that came with them (I guess I’m one of the few that actually enjoyed that obnoxious concoction of their cologne and perfume that was sprayed religiously around the store?) before I reluctantly had to finally throw them into the wash. Well, now this idea is an intentional reality, thanks to the Portuguese denim brand Salsa.

Salsa was born in 1994, and continues to grow all over the world with presences in 35 countries so far with a mission “to be your second skin, giving you the confident and sensual look to conquer the world.” The brand has just released a line of five scented skinny jeans, in your choice of apple, lemon, blueberry, strawberry, or orange (in pretty faded green, yellow, blue, pink or orange colors, respectively). This is made possibly by microcapsules embedded in the jeans that release the scents for up to 20 washes. So, you won’t have to retire your favorite perfume for too long…that is, if you wash your jeans often (or, at all).

I’m not usually one for artificial scents that are intended to smell like fruit, although strawberry isn’t ever all that bad. However, I’m not a big fan of the color pink. I think I’d have to go with the blue, even though I have no idea what blueberry is supposed to smell like…either way, it’s an interesting little addition to this entertaining world of denim that seems to have no end in sight when it comes to innovation and creativity. Oh, and for the men out there…you haven’t been left out of this one, thanks to popular brand Naked & Famous.
