SCHOEN by YU The Muse Cuffed Review on Denimology
Dark blue skinnies. Of all the jeans I’ve reviewed here at Denimology, I think this has become my signature style. I feel blessed enough to be able to experience the multitude of different ways this seemingly-basic style can be designed, constructed and presented, and it certainly is enough to keep my riveted! It never gets old to me. But of course, I’m always on the lookout for that one dark blue skinny that really stands out…I can always trust the large, tried-and-true, household-name brands to produce a pair that I know I’ll love, but I really am more fascinated by what’s next, what new company will come out with a game changer next week, next month or next year. We all know the big guys can deliver, but what about those fighting against the grain in the already-competitive industry? Well, I’ve found the next big thing. So, I’m super stoked to share this next installment in my denim-obsessed life with you: a SCHOEN by YU The Muse Cuffed review!
SCHOEN by YU is such an awesome success story. Created in Los Angeles by denim fit model Lindsey Schoen and veteran designer Michelle Yu, the brand has been making waves in the denim community and media despite being created only last year, in 2014! Lindsey provided the awesome fits for several brands including Paige, Mother, William Rast, Dylan George, while Michelle, a UC Berkeley Law graduate, contributed her design skills at Guess, William Rast, YMI, and others. The two crossed paths in the industry, working for many of the same brands, and it all led to the creation of SCHOEN by YU, which they both funded out of their own pockets and founded the brand with five signature styles: The Bombshell (a flare, see review here, and recently revamped versionhere!), The Muse (skinny), The Muse Cuffed, The Icon (a coated moto skinny), and the Ingenue (a black coated skinny). SCHOEN by YU has earned the attention of multiple celebrities including Kate Hudson, Victoria Beckham, Miranda Kerr, Gisele Bundchen, and is only growing by leaps and bounds every day! I am so excited and proud to assist them along their journey here at Denimology, both with this review and through everything else our team has to offer to help them spread the word!
I was sent The Muse Cuffed, which comes in an absolutely beautiful dark and lightly faded indigo wash, called “Dark Gently Used”. It looks gorgeous on the website, but it’s nothing like it appears in person! This jean has some serious detail, including a black interior to make that indigo really pop, rolled cuffs that can be unrolled if you wish, shiny polished branded gunmetal rivets and button fly as well as a metal tab on the back right pocket, zippered 5th pocket on the right hip, totally solid double belt loops and clean leather brand strip on the inside of the waistband in the back where a tag would go. Even the hems are super clean. I immediately noticed how durable the fabric felt. It’s made of a 46% lyocell, 25% cotton, 19% modal, 8% EME and 2% Lycra® blend which is soft and has just the right amount of stretch, but really feels almost like a full-cotton blend! I would say if you have been curious about the stretchy jeans out there but don’t want a pair that feels like spandex, these would be a great choice for you. They really feel like they will last a long, long time, and I’ve worn them for several days already without any change, other than it forming to my body for an even better fit! Despite its obvious sex appeal, The Muse Cuffed has a modest 8.25″ rise which really eliminates the back-of-the-waist gapping I often experience in jeans, a 27″ inseam when cuffed, and a nice skinny 10.25″ leg opening. As far as sizing goes, I got my usual 26 and it fits me like a dream! I have a slightly muscular, curvy shape, and The Muse stretches just enough to fit, with the strength of the fabric being just thick enough to hold itself in place throughout many, many wears.
The rich indigo shade of The Muse Cuffed makes any outfit beautiful. I like to play it up with some contrast! I usually like to wear dark skinny jeans with heels to really take advantage of their slimming properties but I feel these are slimming enough to wear with any type of shoes, whether you decide to go casual or not! They obviously work great dressed up, but they add such a chic appeal to a casual outfit as well. Wear them to work, on the town, out to dinner…wherever you go, you know you’re in great hands with SCHOEN by YU’s The Muse!
