Get Into The Groove with the 70s Edit at Revolve

“’70s chic. It’s a thing.” I’m sure you’ve noticed, vintage styles have come back with a bang over the last few years. It seems the explosion of the popularity of music festivals and “boho style” certainly helped, but I prefer to stick with the idea that these classic styles simply re-emerged due to their versatility and timeless grace. Simplicity is often key in fashion, and less is almost always more. Maybe it’s the yearning for the golden days of yesteryear as we dive into more complex times, or just the realization that many of the fashions back then were definitely worth bringing back. Not only were they rooted in the notion of a free spirit, but they also captured femininity and playfulness. I personally love them, and they feel strangely nostalgic to me even though I wasn’t even around yet. Either way, I absolutely love ’70s style, whether we’re talking fashion or even home decor and architecture.

Chic and Casual Jumpsuits for Night or Day

When the weather warms up and the wine starts flowing, I love my maxi dresses. There’s something about that lightweight, breezy, flowy feel against your legs as the sun bears down on your shoulders that gets me dreaming of summer all year long. As someone who usually prefers wearing pants over skirts (because without a thigh gap, there’s always going to be some sort of chafing going on by the end of the day which is exacerbated by the stickiness of sweat), I’m surprised I never really considered the maxi dress alternative: the jumpsuit. Rompers, its shorter-leg cousins, are usually pretty prevalent in the California town where I live, which makes sense because we’re pretty warm thoughout most of the year, but I never could see myself in one. It’s not like I don’t wear shorty shorts or mini skirts when it’s hot enough either…I think it has to something with the fact that I have a fairly short torso as it is, and I fear rompers will only make me feel or look blocky. Jumpsuits, on the other hand, keep that elongated, svelte look (as long as the fit is right), and seem like something I would have work at some point by now. I guess I just hadn’t seen one I liked.

Flirty Black and White Gingham Looks from REVOLVE

Flirty Black and White Gingham Looks from REVOLVE

Image: Revolve

I gotta say, when I first saw this new collection from Revolve, I wasn’t too keen. I don’t really like gingham all that much due to, you know, that “farmer’s daughter” look. Usually pieces with this popular print are frilly and a bit too girly for me, but once I gave a closer look, I spotted a few things I might actually wear. I do like checkered type patterns, especially with flannel tops, and as you probably know by now, I feel if it’s black it’s always better. So, I figured hey, maybe I’ll make a post that’s about something I don’t normally like, and explore its possibilities. That’s part of the reason why I thought starting a blog would be a fun idea to begin with, way back when!

Next Level Rompers

Next Level Rompers

Trends come and go and either I like them immediately, hate and condemn them to the back of my brain forever, or hate them at first and slowly warm up to them over time. The romper is one of those things that I never really liked…I always kind of felt only certain body types could pull them off (read: models) and they just weren’t really right for a more muscley, athletic type such as myself. But over time, this style has changed and evolved and brands have gotten pretty darn creative with it. I’m still not totally convinced, but I think at this point I’ve taken them from back of the brand condemnation up a notch to a separate, special compartment called “possibly.” I wasn’t really expecting to write about rompers today until I saw a newsletter come in from a favorite retailer, Revolve, featuring nothing but rompers. I was pretty impressed with what I saw…not gonna lie! I figured this would make a perfect post and add some variety since I’ve been so into posting about individual startups, the usual denim or charitable apparel campaigns. Not that that’s a problem, but I like such a wide range of things (hence my blog name).

I collected several pieces from Revolve here, many of which I would at least try on in a dressing room, and maybe even wear out on the beach one of these ridiculously hot and dry California days we’ve been having lately. Some I might not wear but I added them anyway because they just looked so neat and different! The usual romper went from looking like it belonged on Baby Spice to something truly dressy and chic. I guess one of the reasons why so many of these stood out to me is because many of them look more like mini dresses and add to that boho vibe that just about any chick can get down with, but I also like how many are more form fitting than the rompers I’m used to seeing around. I usually don’t like how boxy they often look…baggy and unflattering. I’m sure with a pair of heels most of these would look like something to be worn at a swanky formal event! Enjoy, and let me know what you think!
