Denim vs the Activewear Industry Editorial on Denimology

I’ve been doing product reviews on Denimology for a little over a year now, but technically I am a “contributor” meaning I can provide just about any other kind of post as well! I didn’t write as many editorials as I could have, because I was also managing this blog on a day to day basis. Now that I’m posting three times a week here, and am a Brand Relationship Manager at Denimology, I’m trying to contribute to both as equally as I can. However, it’s tough to spend a lot of time on a post there, and not want to share it here! As mentioned in many of my previous posts, there’s been a growing trend in leggings, sweatpants, and other active/loungewear being worn in place of jeans due to the perceived lack of comfort that jeans provide. I don’t get this at all…so I decided to write up a post about it explaining why I find this silly! Here we go…

Moving On Up and Trying Something New

Moving On Up and Trying Something New

It’s kind of hard to believe that it’s been just over a year that I started blogging with Denimology. Blogging was just something that sat on the back of my mind for so long, as a venture I might like to try as I love to write and share ideas with others, whether it’s to inspire or relate with like-minded people. I sat around and mulled over the idea for a long time because I wasn’t sure I could constantly produce enough content. The denim obsession was already a given, so when I saw the ad for new denim reviewers on a regular Denimology newsletter over a year ago, I didn’t even have to think twice in responding to it! And now, here I am, with no prior blogging experience just a year or so ago, with a full-blown blog that I’ve consistently posted daily content on and a brand new opportunity that’s just landed on my lap…I am now the Brand Relationship Manager at Denimology! Of course, I’m a little nervous, but it’s definitely one of those things that just feels right. Going into anything new is always a little scary, but when you just get into that uninterrupted flow that proves you’ve found a true passion, the fear just seems to melt away and there’s hardly a second thought. I am so excited to be a solid part of the Denimology team and be an influencer in all of this popular denim blog’s future ventures! I have had so much fun corresponding with brands and doing my best to represent them in the best way possible.

Many denim brands took this opportunity to create special lines of ultra-comfortable jeans that really push the limits of what really defines denim. I think it’s safe to say more who adore fashion also have a big appreciation for art. After all, fashion IS a form of art (just check out any high couture fashion show or observe the numerous amounts of fashion blogs infused with home decor out there). Chances are, anyone who cares how they look when they step out the door give just about the same attention to decorating the walls of their home or admiring art exhibits. Besides the very-popular printed jeans out on the market, what if we could combine denim with artwork? J Brand just proved the incredible potential with their recent collaboration with artist Rob Pruitt, but this isn’t the only great example out there. I recently discovered Dragonfly by J. Claire, which already has a hot hold on the market with some celebrity attention. These are custom hand-painted jeans—done with your choice of both denim wash and design colors. If you please, you can even send in your own jeans to be given a makeover! I recently wrote about Dragonfly by J. Claire on my own blog, and long story short, now I have a few pairs to share with all of you! Two are from her shop, and one was done on a pair of Mia & Moss jeans I reviewed recently (review here)! So here is something truly special to present to all denim fans out there…a Dragonfly by J. Claire Custom Painted Jeans review!

A Gold E Chloe in Laguna Review on Denimology

As someone who is utterly obsessed with denim, I obviously have my big name favorites. However, part of the fun of writing for a denim blog is discovering all the new labels that are popping up to grab their slice of the denim market pie. But every now and then you’ll get an existing, well established brand create a new side label in order to appeal to a broader demographic. It’s always fun in this situation to see how these new jeans compare to the jeans of their parent brand! Jerome Dahan, founder of Citizens of Humanity and 7 For All Mankind, has sprouted off yet another brand, aimed at younger consumers with a lower price point. This brand, called A Gold E, was put into my hands for a review, and I’m happy to say I’m impressed! So lets get on with it…here’s an A Gold E Chloe in Laguna review!

Joe’s Jeans Fahrenheit Curvy Skinny in Retta Review on Denimology

Joe's Jeans Fahrenheit Curvy Skinny in Retta Review on Denimology - Front View

When the temperatures drop in the winter months and it gets tougher and tougher to get out of our warm cozy beds in the morning, the thought of traipsing into work wearing our PJs or favorite pair of sweat pants sounds more like a luxury than a blatant display of sloth. If you’re like me, I’m sure you’ve had more than one morning like this too. Although, anything under 50 degrees is cold to me (I’m a spoiled California girl, I know). It’s during these months when I wish I had some kind of special device to pre-warm my jeans before I throw them on. I’ve gotta put some good use to those tall sexy boots I’ve been stashing all summer, after all. Of all the denim companies there are out there, why hasn’t one come up with the idea of jeans that keep you warm? Maybe ones that can trap air or something to provide insulation? Oh wait…read on, and check out this Joe’s Jeans Fahrenheit Curvy Skinny in Retta review on Denimology!

Paige Verdugo Ultra Skinny in Copper Crackle Review on Denimology

Paige Verdugo Ultra Skinny in Copper Crackle Review on Denimology - Front Angle View

It seems I’ve started a new trend in my posts lately…in my many years of lusting over the seemingly endless, vast array of denim styles out there, I never had a chance to check out the coated denim trend. Then just in the past month or two, I’ve reviewed three of them! This third one though, is the most exciting yet, I think. This is because not only am I’m revisiting a brand I haven’t tried in awhile, but this coated style is truly for the bold and the bold at heart! I’ve never been much into metallic finishes in general, but I never swore them off. With the colder weather upon us, I think these eye-popping denim styles are more fun…coated denim tends to be thicker, so it will keep its wearer a little warmer, and since people usually wear darker colors and more layers in the winter, a little “yowza” is so fun to add to an outfit! At least that works in my case…so maybe you’ll resonate with the idea too, with this Paige Verdugo Ultra Skinny in Copper Crackle review on Denimology!

Not long ago I published a post about an incredible fresh of breath air in the denim industry: custom hand-painted jeans by Dragonfly by J. Claire…and now, I feel so honored to have been given the chance to review a few jeans by Joan Claire herself. This awesome brand already has a hot hold on the market with some celebrity attention. These are custom hand-painted jeans—done with your choice of both denim wash and design colors. If you please, you can even send in your own jeans to be given a makeover! Joan was gracious enough to provide me with three pairs to demonstrate her unique artwork. Two are from her shop, and one was done on a pair of Mia & Moss jeans I reviewed recently that I sent to her to be painted! I will be starting with a review of the latter first and the two from her shop will be following shortly. So here is something truly special to present to all denim fans out there…a Dragonfly by J. Hudson Beth Baby Boot in Stella Review on Denimology

Hudson Beth Baby Boot in Stella Review on Denimology

Anyone who’s been in or been a fan of the premium denim industry long enough is no stranger to Hudson! With their impeccable fits, super soft denim and signature pointed back pocket designs from the get go, the brand had it made for quite some time now without much change needed as time went on and several other brands worked to perfect their craft. I’m definitely a fan of skinny jeans, rarely wearing bootcuts, but Hudson is one of those brands I always prefer a bootcut style with because of the slimming, extremely flattering way they are cut! In the past few years, a bootcut/skinny jean hybrid was born in the industry, and called the “baby boot.” Hudson was one of those brands to adopt the style and make it their own. If there was anything out there to gravitate me towards the bootcut style even more, this would be it. So without further ado, here’s a Hudson Beth Baby Boot in Stella review!
