I am so stoked to finally have had a legit winter here in California…it’s actually been pretty cold for those of us who aren’t quite used to it, and it’s been raining quite a bit, taking us just about out of our drought! I’m definitely one for the warmer summer days, but I’m absolutely loving this cold, wet (and even snowy with hail at times) winter. When it’s as cold as it is, my go-to boots these days have been my Dr. Martens in smooth leather, as they are fairly weather repellent. I’m too afraid to wear many of my nicer leather boots when it’s wet out for obvious reasons! My Docs are warmer than most of mine as well, as are my Oliberté boots (an awesome ethical brand from Ethiopia), but I guess I wasn’t really sure what cozy was until I was approached to review a footwear brand I hadn’t heard of before, Baabuk.
Physique By Gypsy05
I’ve been a big fan of Gypsy05 for quite some time now, since its inception in 2005. Back then, it was their beautifully basic, organic cotton maxi dresses that was up front and center, taking the fashion world by storm. It was *the* maxi dress to be seen in for several summers in a row. In fact, I loved it so much I had my bridesmaids wear them for my wedding in 2011! My husband’s dad’s side of the family is Greek, and this dress had the perfect Athena look to them without breaking the banks of my girls (I never understood the point of doing that). Many of them still wear the dress to this day! Shortly after that I became obsessed with their ultra comfortable fleece pants and sweatshirts, as the Juicy Couture tracksuit era seemed to begin its decline. Since 2005, Gypsy05 has continued to release gorgeous trendsetting pieces over and over without skipping a beat! Since activewear has taken a serious place in fashion lately, with many people wearing it as everyday apparel, Gypsy05 has taken the next step and released Physique, a brand new activewear line! The line is made up with three pieces that come in three different patterns and colors each: the Fleur Active T-Back Crop Top, Fleur Active Capri Pant, and my favorite, the Fleur Active Full Length Pant with block color paneling on the outside of the calves. I LOVE the charcoal print with the magenta paneling on the left below! Each piece is constructed in Hollywood, California of recycled polyester and spandex, with eco-friendly dye processes and materials.
This is certainly my favorite time of the year. Any chance to dress up and have a blast doing so is a chance I’ll take…and what better time of the year than Halloween is there? I honestly think there should be two Halloweens a year (well, there’s always Summerween, which my sister-in-law and her new husband always celebrate out in Chicago). Anyway, it’s not only the dressing up (and the awesome allure of anything dark and creepy) that makes this my favorite holiday…but the smell of pumpkins…oh man. That smell wafting from the porches of everyone down the street who still use real candles in their jack-o-lanterns…of course many would argue the barrage of pumpkin-flavored treats is what makes the Fall as anticipated as it is every year, but I don’t have too much of a sweet tooth. Give me some pumpkin cornbread or good old fashion pumpkin pie though, and I’m set! At the risk of any surprises being foiled, I won’t say what I’m dressing up as this year…that will have to be for another post! So instead, I’ll share a photo of my cute new little cat that my hubby and I adopted this October (and no, not intentionally for the holiday). Meet Larry!
Of course, what is a post on a style blog without something on-topic? So here’s a cool deal which has seriously been seriously calling my name for the last few days…31% off everything (yes, including sale!) at one of my favorite brands ever, American Eagle Outfitters. If you liked my post about the new Denim X technology, and my two reviews (The Hi-Rise Jegging in Inky Dark and Sky High Jegging in Cold Blue Destroy) now’s a great time to try a pair out for yourself! Enjoy, if you so please!
Another favorite of mine, Gypsy05, is also having a 31% of sale. Shop beautifully soft, organic bohemian styles at a great discount! I love this brand…they blew up a few years ago with their organic cotton maxi dresses, and they still live strong today. It’s not surprise, they’ve perfected the tie dye look to fit the tastes of the modern style-conscious individual…and their fleece is the SOFTEST ever! Use code “GypsyTreats” to receive the discount, which is valid through 11/2.
As far as the denim world goes, Black Orchid Denim is offering 30% off. This celebrity favorite offers a wide range of traditional denim styles as well as several unique ones. While I don’t own any of their jeans yet (and hope to review some soon), I’ve admired them from afar for quite some time now! Use “WICKED30” for your discount.
James Jeans also has a Halloween special…get 30% off with code JJSS14 and enjoy $39.99 off select styles! This is a HUGE deal, and I’ve already capitalized off of it by grabbing a pair for my hubby! $39.99 for a pair that is normally $180? Yeah…don’t pass this one up. It’s only good until midnight tonight so hurry hurry hurry!
Have a happy Halloween everyone, and be safe!
Ethnic Handbags by Gypsy05
Gypsy05…this brand sprung up on the scene almost as hard as the Juicy Couture tracksuits. Although Gypsy05 also had its own trendy sweatpants and hoodies that became a quick Hollywood favorite (I admit I have some), I had a much stronger preference for Gypsy05’s organic, flowy, colorful and totally everyday bohemian maxi dresses (totally coveted, and of which I have two) and tops. In fact, I had my bridesmaids each wear one of the brand’s $99 organic maxi dresses, in light blue! I’ve always admired how everything from Gypsy05 looks so casually dressy without making its fans appear like they are trying too hard..and some of those silk dresses are just so damn beautiful, whether you are attending a wedding or hitting the boardwalk! I still get newsletters in from this brand even though I’ve been focused on others lately, because it’s fun for me to stay up to date on what they are up to. Lately, I discovered these pretty new bags the brand just released!
Ranging from cosmetic bags to crossbody bags to large or small totes and hobos, Gypsy05’s bags look like they came right out of Morocco. All of these pretty pieces of arm candy actually were made in Hollywood like the rest of the brand’s numerous collections, but everything is made out of eco-friendly dying processes and/or recycled materials. Even though this is a bigtime brand with celebrities, they sure don’t skimp on making sure everything is Earth-friendly…and that’s another reason why I love them!
I actually have a hippie-looking bag from Rising International and one from American Eagle I got awhile ago, which I love to use for days at the beach, pool or any kind of outdoor gathering with friends. I love my more pricy, quality leather bags and purses but I really have two sides to myself: I’m a city girl, but don’t ever take me too far from the outdoors! I love hitting up the nightclubs with a nice leather bag, but I also love a more toned-down, ethnic cloth bag for more natural settings when it’s time to toss aside the superficial side of the style world and return to my earthy roots.
What do you think of these? You can browse Gypsy05’s handbag collection here!
