21 Side Stripe Skinny Jeans to March You Through the Summer

It’s always so amazing to me how different each pair of jeans are when the majority of the population still sees a pair of jeans like a typical blue piece of workwear. Premium denim has definitely come a long way since they emerged on the market and blew up in the early 2000s, and of course creativity is one of the major factors that keeps competition real and the best brands on top. Racing stripes are one of those cool designs that I’ve had my eyes on for a long time—I can’t really recall exactly when they became popular but I know it was a few years ago sometime. I’m going to make an educated guess that they came to be around the time activewear as streetwear grabbed hold of the market and gave denim a bit of extra competition! I failed to add a pair of jeans with side stripes for quite awhile, until I got to review the above pair for Mavi. I absolutely love this sporty looking style! It also reminds me of my days in high school marching band…which came to mind when I was coming up with the concept of writing about 21 side stripe skinny jeans to march you through the summer!

The Popularity of Overalls is Still Going Strong

All of us remember the classic overalls from our childhood years, even if you weren’t someone who owned a pair. I did! At the time I didn’t care at all about fashion, and wore them mostly for the convenience and comfort. I still remember my short pair. As we all know, trends seem to pop up from nostalgic times of the past—just look at all the styles that have re-emerged from the ’80s and early ’90s over the last few years! In 2014, the overall made a huge comeback, and although its popularity wavered since then, it appears it’s still going pretty strong. However, it’s evolved a lot since that re-emergence, now coming in more refined, skinny and fashionable options rather than the typical frumpy outdoorsy workwear look. I’ll admit I do not own a pair, as it’s one of those trends that I’m not sure about personally. That doesn’t matter to me much though, because it’s still awesome to me to watch what gets released every season, and I will say that there are some people who truly can rock them (I’m looking at you, Kate Bosworth and Miranda Kerr)!

The Weirdest and Most Unique Denim at Shopbop

So for those who followed me through my last post, you know why I’ve been MIA for three weeks: I was at that little party in the desert. You know, that one that’s actually a temporary city built by 70,000 people, and also known as Burning Man! What an experience! Since my blog doesn’t focus on such things, I won’t get into details, but I’ll just say it was the most transformative experience of my life. It tested my mental strength several times, and gave me some clarity to some of the things I wanted to improve in my “default” daily life. This event also encourages everyone to be participants rather than spectators, so the collaboration we had giving back to our camp (building, bartending, helping with workshops, etc) was also extremely fulfilling considering that teamwork is not always so easy in the real world! Yeah, there was plenty of partying, but it went way deeper than that—there’s something so liberating and inspiring seeing so many people letting loose with their creativity, and doing good for others without expecting anything in return.

Unique New Arrivals from Hudson Jeans

I don’t believe Hudson needs much of an introduction, but for those who may be new to the denim game, these guys have earned their street cred. As a veteran brand that’s been around for pretty much as long as other household names such as 7 For All Mankind or True Religion, they’ve staked their claim by constantly reinventing themselves, and I am always liking what I see in every release. For me, Hudson is one of the best brands to truly accentuate the booty, with curvier fits (especially in their signature bootcut models) and well-placed back pockets. The premium denim market is seriously saturated and extremely competitive, so it’s very difficult to stay afloat and come up with new ideas on a regular basis. However, the brand has once again proven its staying power with some new releases that definitely warrant some “oohs” and “aahs.”

Not So Boring Black Jeans for Fall from Shopbop

There are so many gorgeous variations of your traditional blue or indigo washed jeans out there, but my favorite shade lately has been a washed, or faded, black. Dark denim, especially black, is normally seen as a Fall shade, but I honestly love it year round. When it comes to black jeans, most people don’t think much in terms of variation…black is black, right? This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Last Fall, I published a post featuring my favorite dark grey and faded black jeans out there, and since this last month I found myself drooling over this shade again I decided I’d pay the topic a revisit.

Knee Length Bermuda Shorts for Work or Weekends

Knee Length Bermuda Shorts for Work or Weekends

I guess it appears I’ll be swinging one post a week for a little while here, as things are getting quite slammed over in my neck of the woods…and I have a big vacation in August to look forward to (thank God FINALLY). The summer months are always pretty busy with it being the time I’m preparing new product on a website at work, along with the usual fun events and DJ gigs. With the latter, I love wearing whatever the heck I want and getting creative. Shorty shorts are never out of the question when the sun is blaring! However, for the former, although my job is pretty lax when it comes to personal style, I still prefer a more modest option. When it’s REALLY sweltering I’ll opt for a skirt, but I’m not much of a skirt person. Not every gal has a thigh gap so chafing is always an issue, and I usually prefer the security that a pair of jeans or shorts gives!

The Many Faces of the Hudson Nico Midrise Skinny Jean

The Many Faces of the Hudson Nico Midrise Skinny Jean

For those of us who are fairly familiar with the premium denim world, we know very well the butt-lifting, superior fits of Hudson Jeans! As someone with a curvier shape, I find they fit me better than most and are always so flattering. I have a few models from them: the Beth Baby Boot (review here), Signature Boot (one of the original favorites from back in the day), Barbara High Rise Skinny, Colin Skinny and the ever so popular Nico Midrise Super Skinny. The Nico is a comfortable, figure-hugging in-between for those who aren’t so into high rises but aren’t partial to low rise jeans either, and it comes in several ankle-skimming or full length cuts. It’s one of my favorites, as I own it in a few cute prints as well as a gorgeous medium-dark blue wash. The Nico also has modest brand detailing, for those who like a more streamlined and clean back pocket design.

Olive Green is the Color of Spring

I know, I was just as surprised as you are, I guess. Usually Fall is the time for earthy, neutral colors such as browns, burgundies, and olive greens…but I’ve seen more than one retailer pushing the latter as a new Spring color. I’m fine with it, as I’m not much of a bright pastelley color person at all, and olive happens to be one of my favorite colors. It’s nice to find more toned down alternatives! Most people probably associate olive green as a military shade, and military pieces are indeed included in these new Spring marketing campaigns. They are also usually more lightweight which offers more breezy options for the warmer weather!

Embroidered Denim Jackets for Spring

First off, this is a bit of a crazy week for me, since my yearly April destination, Lucidity Festival, is this weekend! I won’t be posting again until sometime next week (maybe later, to allow for a little decompression). It’s definitely a much-needed vacation, and a great time to enjoy welcoming in the Springtime! Also, I’ll be DJing this time around, so I am super excited!

The Ghost In The Shell Collection by Hudson Jeans

The Ghost In The Shell Collection by Hudson Jeans

I’ll have to admit, I’m not a huge movie person. I often have issues sitting still through more than an hour, even if the subject matter is interesting to me. All I can think of is everything I have going on (or could have going on) outside the theater! Being the dreamer I am, you’d think movies would be more my thing, but there have been many very memorable movies throughout my life that I can still sit through over and over again (Mirrormask being one). My husband has tried a few times to get me to watch Ghost In The Shell (being a bit of a nostalgic movie for him), but I never really understood the anime thing, as awesome as the whole culture appears to me. The whole thing looks awesome, and I appreciate the unique storyline and the sci-fi genre it fits in. Anything dark appeals to me, at least enough to catch my attention, and I was curious when I saw the new remake coming out on March 31! Of course, with all remakes, I will probably want to give it time to see how well it sits with the fans of the original, but since I’m not all that familiar with it, maybe I’ll think differently, seeing it with a completely open mind. Either way, I was kind of excited when I saw Hudson, one of my favorite denim brands, coming out with their own apparel collection inspired by the movie!
