Spanx Busts Into the Denim Market
I think we’re all familiar with or at least aware of what Spanx is all about. The company has pretty much dominated the shapewear market for a significant amount of time now. Founder Sara Blakely found herself void of the appropriate undergarments for her white pants one day in the late 1990s while preparing for a soirée, except for a pair of control-top panty hose. So, she took a pair of scissors to the stockings, snipped off the sheer portion, and the idea for Spanx was born. In 2000, the company was established, and quickly expanded into a full-blown line of various undergarments for women and men, and introduced leggings last year. Women of all sizes have praised the line, as well as countless celebrities who need that perfect streamlined photo-ready look for the red carpet. It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? I’m sure a lot of us have seemingly simple fashion ideas we’d love to get off the ground. I know I do….
Anyone who is a fan of fashion and style that hasn’t lived under a rock for the last few years also has witnessed the explosion of figure-flattering denim technology as several existing and well-established brands, as well as many new ones, have taken it upon themselves to enter the “sucks you in until you look like a supermodel” war. I think it’s truly amazing all the innovative denim technologies and fabric blends out there, and the different ones that keep popping up. It’s always been a competitive market, but as the economy slowly picks back up, it seems it’s getting even more so. Now Spanx has finally entered the market, and I’d imagine they have the obvious upper hand here.
Spanx put the skinny in the jeans with two new styles of premium denim, The Signature and The Slim-X®. With features like hidden shaping systems, innovative patterns and cuts, strategically-placed pockets and Triple Thread Technology™, these jeans will make you look and feel great!”
Not to be confused with the denim leggings that have already been available from the company, Spanx has released two main models: The Signature, which comes in either a straight or a skinny style, and The Slim-X which comes in a straight, skinny or super skinny style. The Signature has a higher rise created by a tall flat waistband that hugs in your muffin top, and the zipper was creatively placed on the side to keep it smooth all around and for ease of zipping them up. The Slim-X jean looks like a normal 5-pocket jean, with that flat control band built right in to the front. I’d say I’d love to try The Slim-X! They are pretty attractive to me. This entire line is already available on the Spanx website, but they will soon be available in department stores starting August 25th. A few folks over at The Washington Post gave these a try and went into far more detail than I can. Check it out here.
These jeans retail between $118 and $148, and are available here.
