The New Eco Friendly Denim Line from Everlane

It can be pretty hard to search out eco friendly apparel brands out there in the sea of fast fashion retailers, but it’s finally beginning to get easier. More and more well established brands, whether they have already staked their claim in the premium denim market or not, are realizing the importance of sustainability and environmentally friendly practices as awareness slowly but surely grows. Everlane is one brand I’ve had my eyes on for awhile, as a brand that provides modern, classic and mature wardrobe staples. Denim has never been part of their lineup, as denim is usually a very dirty industry. Creating those beautiful washes we love uses a lot of water, and often releases dangerous toxins into the environment. However, Everlane stayed true to their values and finally found a way to add a denim shop to their expansive collection of apparel for both women and men.

After spending about a year searching out the cleanest Japanese denim fabric supplier they could find, Everlane has released their first denim line. The Saitex factory in Vietnam supplies the brand’s 2% stretch fabric. Just about 50% of the power that the factory consumes comes from alternative energy sources, and 98% of the water used is recycled to the point of actually being potable. In addition, any by-product created from the denim manufactured is used to create bricks to build new homes in Vietnam.

Everlane’s new denim collection comes in three styles for women: a high rise (ankle or regular), mid rise (ankle or regular), and a boyfriend fit. Each comes in a medium blue, black, dark indigo, or a slightly off-white wash. In the men’s department, you’ll find a classic slim fit and straight fit, in black, medium blue or dark indigo wash. Made from 98% cotton and 2% elastane in an 11oz premium Japanese denim, these jeans are made to have an authentic feel with a touch of stretch for comfortable movement. Although these jeans are classified in the premium category, the price point is pretty impressive, considering more sustainable styles usually cost a pretty penny! At only $68, these guilt-free closet staples are ready to become your new favorite jeans.
