The Statement Necklace by Ek Thongprasert

The style and fashion world is well-rehearsed in the concept of the statement necklace, and I’ve seen them time and time again without ever seeing one that I didn’t think was too bulky or made it look like I ran out of the door in a hurry. I’m more of a pendant kind of gal. It’s hard to style these, I think, but my eyes are always drawn to things that look more crafty than manufactured…items that have that handmade look always seem to just scream all of their possibly styling solutions at you. I ran across these pretty Ek Thongprasert necklaces and thought that they looked so beautiful all together, but each one has its own unique characteristics that don’t necessarily make me feel like I need to hoard an entire collection. The inspiration behind the designs is another story in itself!

Designer Ek Thongprasert finished his first degree in architecture, which would later influence the creativity behind these pretty baubles. He then joined the Royal Academy of Art in Antwerp. He paired with Passama Sanpatchayapong who graduated with a degree in industrial design before attending GerritRietveld Academie which is a famous jewelry school in Amsterdam. The rest is history. To describe the resulting work, the brand states “The essence of Ek Thongprasert’s design philosophy is a strong approach toward the conceptual aspect; each collection is a complex combination of thoughts, design elements, which come from deep analysis into a concept. A result is a collection with pure uniqueness and originality.” I’d say that’s a great way to explain these creative, innovative pieces!

Each piece is created with silicone as the main structure, with cubic zirconia and Swarovski crystals adorning them. I could see pairing these with long maxi dresses for the upcoming summer months…the pastels for the daytime and the darker ones for a romantic dinner by the seaside!
