The Traditional Rug Meets Sculpture Art

When it comes to floor coverings, what comes to mind? Linoleum, carpet, wooden, tile…with maybe the occasional antique or woven rug here and there. I don’t like to consider myself too traditional…but I’m definitely modern…I like something different but basic, that breaks the mold or blends elements from several well-known, conventional concepts together into one (I was glued to watercolor and pencil drawing during my art class years, but mixed media was always my favorite). My eyes are always drawn to more blocky colors or geometry; I’m not really one for the antique, patterned, ornate look (I’m still trying to understand the current trend of flowery, printed jeans). So here we go with TouchOfModern coming to the rescue again, enlightening my eyes to the modern but awesomely unconventional from those who truly understand how to think outside the box…check out these carpets!

Böwer Wooden Carpets are created by textile artist and sculptor Elisa Strozyk. This gifted lady has a Masters from Central Saint Martins, several awards and gallery exhibitions, including one at the Saatchi Gallery in London, in 2013. I love how these carpets blend geometric, wooden pieces with woven textiles, and are so perfectly put together like puzzle pieces that they almost look better scrunched up in a display case than laying flat on the floor. I’d be so afraid to step on them! Actually, TouchOfModern states that they are decorative and meant to play with, not to be used in a traditional manner. They all range material-wise from oak to maple to linin to teak beech veneer and more, all with an oil finish and can be cleaned and renewed with a linseed oil and cloth combo.

These rugs will set you back a few grand, but if I was an art collector, I’d be all over it. They have obvious quality to them and look like they took a lot of handiwork! Check them out for yourself.
