Joe’s Eco Friendly Cigarette in Shayla Review on Denimology
I always enjoy reviewing Joe’s because I already know I’m going to just love whatever is sent to me! They are always so soft and figure-flattering and I never really need a belt with them. Their vintage looks are so top notch and add such a cool appeal to any outfit. The brand is always on top of it, constantly coming out with new innovative collections that cater to a season, consumer demand, or even to a particular technology. I love seeing what Joe’s is going to churn out next, and I was so so excited to see them come out with a new eco-friendly denim line which only makes perfect sense with today’s growing awareness of conservation issues! Sustainable fashion is definitely a huge thing for me. I actually just wrote about this new eco conscious line (see post here) and now I’m stoked to share this review with all of you! I am also wearing a new favorite necklace from a new favorite independent artisan, Third Eye Pinecones, which I wrote about last month (see post here)!
The Joe’s Eco-Friendly Denim line uses 60% less water and 30% less energy consumption to construct each pair, which makes for a tremendous effort towards reducing their carbon footprint and making fashion more sustainable. The mills also uses a zero discharge water treatment facility to keep nasty chemicals out of our streams. I chose the Cigarette in Shayla because you can never really have enough grey denim, especially for Fall, and I’m a total skinny denim head so I figured this straighter style would be at least a slightly different selection for me! As expected, the wash is beautiful. It’s a faded black, dark grey finish with minimal shadow whiskers and just a tiny amount of distressing so they already felt worn in when I put them on!
They were ridiculously comfortable, (which again, coming from Joe’s was no surprise), with a 59% cotton, 39 modal and 2% elastane fabric blend. I really like the 11oz thickness too, so they are great with the dropping temperatures and really feel durable enough to last for years on end with normal wear. The 8″ mid rise is perfect, and fits over my hips without gapping which is awesome because I have one of those shapes that often deals with that when jean shopping! The inseam is about 31″ (I’m a 32 or 33″ inseam) so they don’t need to be cuffed and fit well in boots. Even though they are a straight leg, they are a bit on the skinny side still, just a little looser from the knee down to a 12″ leg opening. I’ve worn them for several days in a row (which is easy due to the fact that they pretty much feel like sweatpants) and I can’t really even tell if they stretched out all that much! They still have not gotten baggy or sagged out and I do not need a belt to keep them up.
Grey jeans are such a perfect staple for the Fall, and these are obviously no exception…being darker they are a bit more slimming than a lighter grey jean, and they don’t have any in-your-face detailing so they go with everything! All they have is a bit of aged hardware and your regular Joe’s tab on the right back pocket hem, which is black so it’s pretty hard to notice anyway. I’ve worn them casually to work and haven’t dressed them up yet, but even though to me they do feel more on the casual side, I think they’d be versatile enough to go with a pretty top on a dinner and a movie date! I would definitely recommend these to anyone! They will keep you feeling chic and warm and cozy this winter and I’m sure they’ll also make a great jean come Springtime and beyond.
