The Return of the J Brand Houlihan Cargo
I remember when skinny cargo pants came out in 2007 or 2008-ish. At first, like I am with most new trends, a little bit ‘meh’ about it. J Brand was the first, if I remember correctly, to come out with theirs, in the form of the Houlihan, and it took the celebrity world by storm as a super coveted style. Famous butts were seen traipsing around in them everywhere! It grew on me after awhile though, especially after I scored a pair by Rich & Skinny as well as a black pair by BLANKNYC. But by the time I decided I could do the skinny cargo thing, the trend already had started to fade, and it dropped off pretty quickly after that. The Houlihan was replaced by new and upcoming brands in Hollywoodland, and J Brand continued innovating new styles. I had just been wondering if the skinny cargo would ever return as an in-style thing, and lo and behold, I got a newsletter last week answering that thought. Daaamn, J Brand, back at it again with the Houlihan! Ok that was cheesy. Anyway, it’s awesome that this brand always seems to be leading this trend! This one’s available in two colors: Distressed Caledon, a dark army green; and Distressed Chrome, a pretty dark grey. It still all has the same details I remember, as a mid rise with cargo pocket details and seams down the front and back of the legs. It also includes moto-like stitching and paneling on the knees and trouser-like pockets on the back. And, don’t forget those zippers on the cuffs! It’s also made of ultra comfy luxe Japanese twill.
What do you think? Is this a style you are welcoming back, or if you didn’t like it the first time, would you go for it now? I would!

I LOVED the Houlihan! I had the Agnes too! But the Houlihan were great. I have them in the green and the orange, then the Agnes in blue, so I am excited they are coming back!
Raindrops of Sapphire
Yayy!! Haha. I never got my hands on one but I am thinking I’d like to this time around! They are now officially a classic, I’d say! Haha 😉 I bet they are BEAUTIFUL in the orange! I’d love to see you in them!
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if they stretch a little over time. I am usually a size 23 in J Brand but sometimes a size 24, depending on the fabric. I prefer to wear my cargos slim and fitted. Thanks.
Hi Melanie! I have never personally tried these, but from what I’ve read and heard from others, it’s good to stick to your usual size if you like them to fit slighty relaxed. Since you like them more fitted and slim, it can’t hurt to size down. Some people have said they do stretch out a little bit, and they do have some stretch to them! The thing is, that’s what I know about the originals, I am not yet sure about this new round of the Houlihan and I haven’t seen any reviews on them pop up yet! I hope that was at least a little helpful 🙂 I hope to get these reviewed at some point!
