Well I’m back, and I have to say how tough it is to get back to the commercial world after a freaking transformational festival. For those who don’t know, I was camping and dancing it up with friends at Lucidity Festival over the weekend, and oh how great it was to be back there again. I always leave feeling so refreshed, re-inspired and reminded what really matters in life: camaraderie, spirit, love and personal growth. The little things that drive me nuts on a regular basis just don’t anymore when I return, so it is so awesome to start writing again with a fresh mind. I was debating whether or not to wait until next week so I have more time to decompress, reflect and enjoy the afterglow, but I hate leaving things for too long!

I can’t believe it was already a year ago that I dressed as a “sexy” Mad Hatter for an impromptu Halloween party at the house of a coworker, and then another one again the weekend after for a company party…that was definitely one of my favorite ones. I often laugh at the influx of “sexy” costumes out there, but inside, I’ll admit it’s just good plain fun. This month I already had two parties, and I think I’m already pretty partied out…both of them were Halloween-themed DJ gigs, both at which I dressed as dark as I could, in a black corset with lots of metal hardware, a spiked collar, a garter belt, black fuzzy Spirit-Hoods-style half hood, stockings and stripper heels…with the intention of being a bat. However, the wings just weren’t working, so I resorted to a hellcat, thanks in part to the first party being a Heaven & Hell theme. I DJed on the Hell stage, which was my choosing, spinning some ultra dark and sexy techno (bwahaha). This is definitely my favorite part of the year! Whatever you choose to do this party weekend, here are a few sales I found in my inbox from some of my favorite denim brands (I’m actually surprised I haven’t seen more) just in case you figured you’d squeeze in some shopping as well. I’m keeping this brief as I doubt many will be by their computers this weekend…so with that said, be safe, and have loads of FUN! Happy Halloween! Mrowr….

Out of all the reviews I’ve done for Denimology, I’ve got to say Marc Allison has been one of my favorites! I had heard of the brand several years before I became involved with the popular denim blog, and I was so excited to finally try them out! I started with reviewing the Gina Slim Boot in White, and then this year the Shirl Classic Bell in New Vintage as the super fun ’70s style made a comeback this spring. I absolutely love the high durability of the fabrics, which still keep just enough stretch to hold you in without stretching out at all. They are super flattering! MAJ also offers home trunk shows, which I have considered and hope to do one of these days when my schedule isn’t so hectic (if that ever happens). What impresses me the most about the brand is their ability to do so well on their own without selling to boutiques, and only relying on those home trunk show parties and direct sales on their website. However, after one tries on a pair, it makes perfect sense! I know I speak very highly about so many brands here, but these are truly unique, and are amazing for those who want a clean, great fitting, stretchy jean without the thin spandexy feel that will keep its shape and relevancy through multiple seasons.

I remember these jeans quickly became a celebrity favorite because of this “T400” technology (which he developed with Invista, a global producer of polymer and fibers, to create a yarn that stretches in all directions) that offers four-way stretch with excellent comfort and recovery that moves with the body like a dream.

Flares flares flares. They’re all in this season! I don’t own many, since length is always a difficult factor for them, as it also is with bootcuts. But oh boy do they make your legs look long if you wear a longer inseam with heels! They are definitely a fun style, and they’ve been popping up everywhere this Spring as you might have noticed. I was turned on to the style several years back with a pair of Rich & Skinny‘s Belissima, and I wear them exclusively for dinner dates and other fancy occasions! Not only are they a fun, classic 70s style, but they can also be ultra flattering, giving your legs and overall frame an hourglass-like appeal. I personally wear mostly skinny jeans, since they work with everything and all shoe heights, and I like form-fitting apparel, so I haven’t acquired another pair of flares since my Rich & Skinnys. Recently though, we’ve gotten back in touch with the amazing Marc Allison Jeans, for whom I did a review for last year. One of their styles I was eyeing when I first discovered them many years ago was the flare. So, I’m excited to present to you this Marc Allison Shirl Classic Bell in New Vintage review!

I am excited to bring you a Marc Allison Gina Mid Rise Slim Boot in White review! Spring and summer months often bring lighter colors to your wardrobe, and denim is rarely an exception. Most people, including me, are terrified of whiter denim, despite how amazing it looks…it’s often notoriously see-through (and I always worry about getting it dirty!). However, when Marc Allison contacted me to review their new Gina Slim Boot, I chose the white style because of this fear…I was ready to take the plunge and find a great pair that could break the negative expectations that many have and try out something new. I have to say, these are pretty great!

The Darker Side of Spring

With springtime upon us already, I’m always seeing so many newsletters from brands flooding my inbox advertising the usual “pretty spring pastels.” I really am not much of a pastels type of gal…I still have some residual entities of all of my ill-fated style attempts inside me including my gothier stage in high school. That particular being still looks at all the bright colors and resumes her bitchy resting face, unimpressed. On most days, I still like to balance everything out with a little black somewhere in my ensemble. Not always *all* black anymore…I like contrast! I only like bright colors if I’m working out, really. Trends are not my forte and I’m pretty oblivious to seasons, fashion-wise (except for the change of footwear and jackets). The only part of this 2014 spring season that sticks out to me is the interesting upsurge in leather jackets (isn’t that a fall thing? Wait, what did I just say?) that I don’t remember seeing in previous years. Mostly white ones, but I’ve seen a ton of black leather jackets lately as if some fashion industry bigheads decided spring and summer just weren’t good enough to make them split with their love affair with fall and winter. I have a soft lambskin one I got from Victoria’s secret a few years back that I absolutely love, and I’ve found myself wearing it a little more lately too. I found it interesting that amongst those springtime newsletters permeating my inbox, Acne, J Brand and Hudson have all gone against the grain with their own darker looks for spring, and I just happen to love it!
