For most people, jeans are nothing more than a closet staple. It makes sense why they are seen in a classic sense; everyone wants pieces that will fit with everything. Essentials are definitely important, but why not shake it up from time to time? One of the reasons why I love the denim industry so much is because there are so many creative takes to your basic denim jean. Being someone who prefers to wear black most of the time, black denim is a huge part of my wardrobe. I feel I can never have too many pairs of black jeans. To most, that may sound strange…black denim is black denim, right? Well I’m here to throw that outdated idea out the window.
Is anyone else sick of the winter yet? I mean, I’m happy for the rain, those cuddly rainy days in and the holiday season which once again zipped right past us as if it was only a dream. However, it’s a new year and I’m ready for the next round of warm weather! With the party and wedding season coming up, I’m sure many of us are taking time out of our “beach body” ambitions and planning for that new favorite dress to wear to whatever springtime soirees might be in our near futures (and it’s just fun to freshen up that formal wardrobe). I’m not exactly a fancy person but it is fun to dress up from time to time. I like to opt for the semi-formal getup when it’s time for a celebration, and of course it my new look is sustainable, I’m even more happy. So, as we all yearn for warmer days ahead, I wanted to share some new sustainable wedding and party dresses from Reformation.
When browsing for new denim or checking out what’s new in the world of style, Shopbop is always one of my top online destinations (next to Revolve). They always have fresh pieces and although I can’t always be spending that kind of money, I appreciate quality and the artistry that comes from these designers. However, you know me…I’m always wanting to peruse new sustainable brands or items first. Since there’s no actual category on Shopbop for that, I have to do my research beforehand. That is why I compiled five great eco friendly brands available on Shopbop for a post here not too long ago for others who might be wanting to shop more consciously. It comes as no surprise that I know several sustainable brands already, but not all of them are available as options at these popular shopping destinations. Reformation is one of those awesome brands that has been on my radar for awhile now (I’ve written about them twice, once in 2017 and another time this year), but they are almost exclusively available from their own website. So, I’m happy to see that they are now becoming more available to discerning customers, and I’m happy to now say that Reformation brings eco friendly style to Shopbop!
If you’ve been reading my blog for long enough now, or paying attention to the increasing awareness and numerous brands that have stood up to make a change in apparel manufacturing, you might already know about how dirty of an industry it can be. From CO2 emissions to water usage to fabric waste and so much more, players within the fashion industry have a lot of work laid out in front of them to clean up their act. I’m so glad, however, that this isn’t such a hard concept to grasp anymore, since as mentioned, more and more brands are either working on it or have already revamped their practices. Reformation is one of those brands and it’s about time I give them a proper shout out!
I am so excited to share yet another new sustainable denim line with all of you! Here’s the spiel again: the clothing industry is quite dirty and wasteful, especially when it comes to denim. Think of the land, water, and pesticides needed to grow the cotton, the water needed to wash the denim and the chemicals used to create those beautiful worn washes and finishes we all love. According to Forbes, 1,500 gallons of water is used just to create one pair of jeans, and a whopping 450 million jeans are sold in one year in the United States. You can do the math.
